About Us

DC 37 Lesbian and Gay Issues Committee

Chair
Judith Arroyo
President, Local 436

Meetings scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Mission Statement

DC 37 established the Lesbian and Gay Issues Committee (LAGIC) in April of 1990, extending the union’s commitment to uphold the civil and human rights of all workers. LAGIC supports lesbian and gay union members by increasing their visibility, affirming their dignity, and promoting a non-homophobic workplace environment. LAGIC heightens awareness of lesbian and gay issues by sponsoring educational forums and participating in union activities. Publishes quarterly newsletter, The Star.

LAGIC sponsors educational, political and social events and participates in community activities of interest to lesbian and gay union members. Our goals are to:

  • Eradicate homophobia and discrimination in the workplace.
  • Assist lesbian and gay members with grievances related to workplace discrimination.
  • Educate DC 37 members regarding issues of lesbians and gay men in the labor movement.
  • Achieve parity in benefits for domestic partners.
  • Monitor and lobby for all legislation affecting lesbian and gay rights, including statewide and federal anti-bias legislation and gay rights bills.
  • Assist and advocate for all DC 37 members with HIV-related concerns.
  • Connect LAGIC globally by web page and e-mail to inform and receive pertinent information pertaining to all union members.
  • Embrace the youth of our members by holding educational seminars and rap groups concerning peer pressure and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Conduct community outreach.
