With 26 years’ experience as an IT professional, Laura Morand is the president of Electronic Data Processing Employees Local 2627 represents nearly 6,000 IT workers, and was elected for her first term as a vice president on the DC 37 Executive Board in January 2019. Her career in civil service began in 2002 at the FDNY. Her involvement and activism with the local includes 10 years as a DC 37-trained shop steward, along with serving on the local’s Quality of Work Life Committee, and later was elected Labor Co-Chair for FDNY QWL Committee. Morand also serves on the local’s Women’s History Committee, and on the Health and Safety Committee. “I understood that our members’ voices must be heard and their rights always protected,” Morand said. “I am proud to have represented and helped hundreds of members with questions and concerns, and at disciplinary hearings as a Shop Steward and later on as a Grievance Representative. I prepared and filed grievances, in order to fight for and protect our member’s rights. I will continuously work to ensure our union’s business is handled properly.” Morand earned a Bachelors in Business Administration in Management Information Systems from Pace University and a Masters of Science in Information Systems Engineering from the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.
