DC 37 Saturday Activity Programs
37 Education Department
The DC 37 Education Department offers a variety of interesting programs on Saturdays for members, their spouses, children, and retirees of DC 37. There is a fee for each individual program. These fees do not include equipment, such as a guitar or a camera, or other supplies.
Registration for the spring 2017 semester will take place in March and April. Watch for the announcements in the Public Employee Press regarding registration. For more information on the programs and fees, please call (212) 815-1700.
The following are the classes offered:
- Drawing & Sketching
Learn the basics of sketching and drawing with an artist. Art classes are for ages 12 to adult. Seasoned sketch artists are also welcome to join the class.
- Crafting with Yarn (Course Alternates Semesters)
- Crochet - Learn the basics of crochet from the foundation up, including basic pattern reading (words and symbols), and projects for beginner/intermediate crotchetier. No experience necessary. Open to ages 12 to adult.
- Knitting - Learning the basics of knitting including how to cast on, the knit & purl stitches, how to bind off, and the basics of pattern reading. Beginner and Intermediate classes offered. Open to ages 16 to adult
Guitar classes include basic technique, fundamentals of melody, harmony and rhythm for guitarists. Beginner and intermediate classes offered. Open to ages 8 to adult.
- Jewelry Making/Beading
Learn Beading and Jewelry Making. Open to ages 18 to adult. Participants will need to purchase supplies. Information will be provided at registration.
Learn the new technology of digital photography and 35 mm camera technique. Create your own website, learn scanning and retouching of your photos, how to email of your images and much more. Open to ages 15 to adult.
Master the basics of achieving balance in your life through the discipline of Yoga. Classes are specifically tailored for relaxation, toning and increased flexibility. Open to beginners, ages 16 to adult.
