Member’s daughter needs kidney transplant to live

Police Administrative Aide Bernice Evelyn is fighting to save her daughter’s life. A member of Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549, she asks DC 37 members to volunteer to donate a kidney.

Keona Evelyn, 36, has an advanced case of systemic lupus (SLE), which affects all her organs. She has lost most of her vision and suffers from brain lesions and an immune system breakdown. Ms. Evelyn has been receiving dialysis treatments, but that is not working well. Soon, a kidney transplant will be her only hope. “God keeps me going. God, my church and my mother,” said Keona Evelyn.

If you would like to help, please call Ms. Evelyn at 757-497-4696.

With 80,000 people now waiting for lifesaving organ transplants — “the gift of life” — consider registering as a donor. For more information, call the New York Organ Donor Network at 1-800-GIFT-4NY.
