Honored Sept. 24 for their “outstanding service and devotion to the community” were two DC 37 local presidents, Carmen Charles of Municipal Hospital Employees Union Local 420 and Claude Fort of Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375.

“The leadership and organizing skills that we develop in the labor movement can be very useful in the community setting,” said Charles at the annual dinner of Brooklyn’s Wesley McDonald Holder Democratic Club.

“We have members of every race and nationality in communities throughout the city. Helping the community means helping the union,” said Fort.

The awards were presented by City Council member Kendall Stewart and 58th District State Committeewoman Gail Reed Barnett. Honored with the two DC 37 Vice Presidents were City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Assembly member Vito Lopez and Service Employees Local 32BJ President Michael Fishman.
