Former provisional employees of the NYPD attend a Dec. 3 informational meeting sponsored by the Clerical Division to answer the questions of terminated members of Local 1549 and provide information on benefits and pensions.

About 70 provisional Police Administrative Aides who were terminated and replaced by workers who passed a civil service test attended an informational meeting held Dec. 3 by the DC 37 Clerical Division.

“We wanted to help these workers land as softly as possible and get on with their lives,” said Assistant Division Director Ron Arnero. The former PAAs heard from Clerical Division staff and other experts on Food Stamps, unemployment and health insurance, pensions, the 401(k) deferred compensation plan and upcoming civil service tests. They received the Layoff Resources Guide published by the DC 37 Health & Security Plan.

As a result of the Long Beach court decision, permanent workers from civil service lists are replacing 97 NYPD provisionals. Under state law and the decision, provisionals are not supposed to remain in city jobs for more than nine months.
