Union celebrates Chanukah
Union members and leaders of all faiths gathered at DC 37 headquarters to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Chanukah. NYPD Chief Chaplain Rabbi Dr. Alvin Kass (third from left), who is a member of Local 299, spoke of the sacrifice and success of the Maccabees, a group of Jewish rebel warriors. They revolted against against a Greek occupation to defend the Jewish faith from persecution. “While the Maccabees led the first successful religious revolt in history, the union leads a revolt on behalf of social justice,” Kass said.
