Free tax preparation

	Bargaining committee for 311 operators holds its first meeting. Local 1549 won union representation rights in a decision by an impartial board.

In 2003, DC 37 helped more than 400 members get over $1.5 million in tax refunds and savings on tax preparation. This year, DC 37 is expanding the program by continuing its partnership with the Community Food Resource Center, with 10 centers (PDF*) in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

Free professional tax preparers at each center will help you determine if you qualify for the earned income tax credit of up to $5,465. The sites will operate on a first come, first served basis. To hear what documents you must bring, call 1-866-WAGE-PLUS (1-866-924-3758) toll-free.

To qualify for free electronic tax filing and preparation, a person with dependent children must have less than $35,000 in total family income, including their spouse’s earnings. A person with no children must have less than $15,000 in total family income. DC 37’s efforts to help members with tax preparation and the EITC began with a pilot program initiated by Local 372.
