Local 372 chapter leaders are elected as trustees of BERS

Two Local 372 members, Rebecca Marston and Effie Tucker, will serve as trustee and alternate trustee on the New York City Board of Education Retirement System (BERS). Local 372 and DC 37 supported both in their campaign for the positions late last year.

In January, Ms. Marston was sworn in to a full term as trustee. She was elected to that position in November after serving the 18 months left in the term of the previous trustee, Local 372’s Catherine Bruno, who retired in Nov. 1999.

“This position gives our members a voice in how and where to invest their retirement funds,” said Ms. Marston, who is also chair of the local’s SAPIS Chapter.

“And it makes it a little easier to serve members when the phone call to the main office of BERS comes from a trustee.”

The alternate, Effie Tucker, chairs the School Crossing Guard Chapter. She will serve in the absence of Ms. Marston. “I am looking forward to learning as much as I can about BERS. Then I can better answer members’ questions,” she said.
