The war, the contract

As Bush’s disastrous war—remember, he got us there based on deliberate lies—reaches its five-year anniversary, I think the Republicans, including McCain, who wants to stay in Iraq forever, owe this nation an accounting: How much has it cost, what else could we have done with the money, and how many have died for no good reason?

I am beginning to suspect that our cities and states would not be broke and New York City and our union would have an easier time negotiating a new economic contract if the money were not being squandered on death and destruction in Iraq.
