Local 420 president honored among “50 Over 50”
City & State magazine recently named Carmen Charles, president of Municipal Hospitals Employees Union Local 420 and a DC 37 vice president, as one of its “50 Over 50” stars of the city for her dynamic activism on behalf of labor union members and the NYC public health care system.
“I am deeply moved and honored to be counted alongside so many outstanding citizens who have fought to make this city better for all New Yorkers,” Charles said. “For the last 17 years, the members of Local 420 have given me the greatest opportunity as their president to be on the front line in the fight for better public healthcare and a healthier city. The work members do is in no way glamorous. We’re dedicated city employees who provide round-the-clock care at public hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics.”
