Union partnership with CUNY provides immigration assistance
DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido and the union’s Citizenship Committee Chair Juan Fernandez, in partnership with CUNY Citizenship NOW and City Council member Margaret Chin, welcomed hundreds of members and their families to union headquarters on Jan. 12, where members and their families took initial steps toward obtaining citizenship.
Immigration professionals and experienced lawyers offered free assistance to residents 18 years of age and older seeking help in applying for U.S. citizenship. In providing free assistance, the union is affirming and strengthening its connection to members and immigrant communities. CUNY Citizenship Now will sponsor events like this each month.
