Who will do your income taxes? Don’t spend hard-earned money on commercial preparers that charge an average of $200 to help get your own money. If you (and your spouse*) earn under the income ceiling below, you may qualify for free tax filing assistance.

Last year, DC 37 helped over 800 members get $2.2 million in refunds at no charge. Refunds were electronically filed and directly deposited within 10 days for most members. Attendance at the free clinics is up 68 percent this year, but you can still qualify.

Income ceiling: If you are filing with no children, you (and your spouse*) must have earned less than $20,000 total in 2004. If you are filing with children, you (and your spouse*) must have earned less than $40,000 total in 2004.

* Note: Your spouse’s income must be included if you are filing jointly.
