Union presses for contract

DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts addresses city negotiators March 30 at the latest bargaining session for a new economic agreement (right). In late April, with Roberts pushing the city to reach an agreement quickly, the parties expected to set a new date for another session of negotiations, and subcommittees assigned to discuss welfare fund benefits, citywide issues, pensions and a salary review procedure were scheduling meetings.

At the March 30 meeting, the city offered raises in the second and third year of a proposed three-year settlement after making an initial offer in an earlier bargaining session for the first year.
