City Council member James E. Davis, 2nd from left, deplored the spiral
of violence at city juvenile justice centers and pledged to support
Local 1457's campaign against workplace assaults when he addressed
members in April.
Eighty-nine Local 1457 members, primarily female Juvenile Counselors,
were injured in 2001 when they were directly attacked by residents
or intervened in altercations. So far this year, 55 have been assaulted.
