Key City Council member backs Juvenile Counselors in Local 1457

L-r, front row, Local 1457 President Alex Parker, Mr. Davis, Exec. Board member Agnes Whitehurst and DC 37 Rep Tyler Hemingway; at rear, VP Charles Grant, Rec. Sec. Tahia Johnson and Juvenile Counselor Ester Okafar.

City Council member James E. Davis, 2nd from left, deplored the spiral of violence at city juvenile justice centers and pledged to support Local 1457's campaign against workplace assaults when he addressed members in April.

Eighty-nine Local 1457 members, primarily female Juvenile Counselors, were injured in 2001 when they were directly attacked by residents or intervened in altercations. So far this year, 55 have been assaulted.
