LIU honors Retirees’ Norman O. Davis

Norman O. Davis was named recently to the national honor society for public affairs and administration. Long Island University inducted the DC 37 Retirees Association vice president into Pi Alpha Alpha April 6 in a ceremony at its Brooklyn campus.

Davis recalled that he was hired as a Parks worker after answering an ad in the Chief that said, “No education, no experience,” for which he quipped he was adequately qualified.

Davis said he was inspired by his mother to pursue his Parkscareer. As a Parks worker, he served 11 years as a shop steward with Laborers Local 924, and was the vice president of Uniformed Parks Supervisors Local 1508 from 1980 to 1988.

Davis earned his undergraduate degree in psychology at the DC 37 campus of the College of New Rochelle in 1975. In the mid-1980s, as president of CNR’s DC 37 Alumni Association, Davis convinced the college to establish a unique master’s program in public administration.

LIU honored Davis for his role at the recommendation of Judith J. Kirchhoff, program director of the public administration program, and Aziza Zemani, assistant professor and faculty advisor to Pi Alpha Alpha for national honors.
