Insurance reimbursement to DC 37 for 9/11 losses tops $6 million

Exec. Director Lillian Roberts, left, accepts $1 million check for union’s 9/11 losses from Ernesta G. Procope of E.G. Bowman Co. Real Estate Mgr. Ralph Pepe looks on.

DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts recently accepted a check to DC 37 for more than $1 million, the final reimbursement for the union’s losses due to the 9/11 terrorist attack.

Ernesta G. Procope, president and CEO of insurance broker E.G. Bowman Co., presented the payment. The check represented the final installment of the more than $6 million that DC 37 received from the St. Paul Insurance Co.

The insurance repaid the union for the cost of repairing the extensive damage suffered by its 125 Barclay St. headquarters, which is but one block north of the disaster site. The payments also covered the expense of continuing to provide services to members as the building was rehabilitated, which required relocating hundreds of employees to other sites.

Ms. Roberts praised the work of Real Estate Manager Ralph Pepe and the Bowman firm for “restoring our members’ money.” The E.G. Bowman firm is the country’s largest minority- and woman-owned insurance brokerage.
