Fight cancer: Join union walkers Sunday, Oct. 20

By ALFREDO ALVARADO

DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts has urged union members and locals to participate in the annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk, which will be held Sunday, Oct. 20 in Central Park.

"This is a very important health issue for members, their families, co-workers and communities," said Ms. Roberts. "By joining in the walk, you can help make a difference."

The annual walk raises money for the American Cancer Society, which finances research aimed at helping atients and conquering the disease. DC 37 supports the walk as a Flagship Sponsor, which involves a substantial commitment of volunteers and funds.

The DC 37 Health and Nutrition Committee organizes the union's participation. Representatives from the American Cancer Society will be on hand at the next committee meeting on Monday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. to speak about this year's walk and to recruit team captains.

This year the committee is planning a special warm-up session before the walk. For more information, members are asked to call Committee Co-Chair Michelle Keller at (212) 815-1375.
