Over 30 members certified in medical billing

Members celebrate the completion of a rigorous course in which they earned certification in medical billing and coding. The DC 37 Education Fund set up the course with instructors from Monroe College.

Thirty-two union members graduated June 24 from the rigorous course in Medical Billing and Coding offered by the DC 37 Education Fund with instructors from Monroe College. The grads received their certificates in a ceremony at the union, where they celebrated their accomplishments with classmates, family, faculty and union staff. The course required 271 classroom hours over 15 months.

“I’ve never seen a more devoted group. I give you all the credit in the world,” Monroe College Dean Dr. Jerry Kostroff told the graduates. “I congratulate you for staying the course,” said Ed Fund Administrator Barbara Kairson.

“I’m always thrilled when members take advantage of the benefits that we offer,” said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts.

Many of the grads were members of locals 1549 and 420, with fully half from Local 1549. “We are proud of all of you,” Officer-at-Large Carmen Flores told them.

“These members worked very hard to complete the course,” said Local 1549 President Eddie Rodriguez. “We congratulate them on their achievement.”

Members interested in taking future classes can get information from Program Coordinator Stephen Johnson at 212-341-4739.
