Celebrating
25 years of Black History Month
On Feb. 1, 2006, District Council
37 honored the indelible African American spirit and culture and
welcomed over 200 members, retirees and representatives of the United
Negro College Fund as special guests to its 25th annual celebration
of Black History Month at union headquarters.
"Celebrating Black History Month
gives us a chance to reflect on the struggle and what we as individuals
are doing to carry on the legacy of Dr. King and the civil rights
movement," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts, who
cut the ribbon to open the month-long celebration at union headquarters.
"We live the civil rights struggle every day that we represent
the members, and that is a privilege."
DC 37 is the city's largest public employee
union with 121,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
