District Council 37, the city's largest municipal employee union, is launching a new media campaign this weekend to solve the City's budget crisis without cutting public services or laying off workers. The union will be spending several hundred thousands of dollars advertising on television, radio, and in community newspapers throughout the City. "Its crunch time for the budget. We are calling on the Mayor and the City Council to find the savings in the bloated private contractor budget to prevent massive cuts in vital human services," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts.
