DC 37 and U.S. Postal Services join to unveil commemorative Paul Robeson stamp Ceremony takes place at DC 37 Black History Month opening ceremony The United States Postal Service will join District Council 37 to unveil a commemorative stamp honoring the great African-American scholar/activist/entertainer Paul Robeson at the DC 37's Black History Month celebration opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on Monday, February 2 at the union's headquarters, 125 Barclay Street in lower Manhattan. Those attending include: DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts, DC 37 President Veronica Montgomery-Costa, DC 37 Treasurer Maf Misbah Uddin, DC 37 Secretary Clifford Koppelman, Henry Foner of the Paul Roberson Foundation, Michelle Miley of the U.S. Postal Service and a host of DC 37 local presidents. "I am delighted that the Postal Service saw fit to honor the great African-American scholar/activist Paul Robeson here at DC 37, a union that has a long history of civil rights activism," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts. "Mr. Robeson was a legend in the civil rights community and we are privileged to be part of this event. He fought for workers' rights and for the rights of African-Americans against tremendous opposition" "We were one of the first unions in the country to
celebrate Black History month. Over the years, we've celebrated the great
heroes of Black History, and certainly Paul Robeson is among the greatest,"
Ms. Roberts added. The DC 37 Black History Month celebrations features a month long series of events dedicated to the achievements and contributions made by African-Americans throughout the more than 300-year African-American experience in America. The Robeson stamp will made available to the public for
purchase after the ceremony. A special first day cover and cliché
card with a DC 37 stamp will also be available for purchase.
