DC 37's Lillian Roberts to chair United
Negro College Fund NY Labor Campaign for second year running
The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) has named DC 37 Executive Director
Lillian Roberts to chair its New York Labor Campaign for the second year
running.
In 2005, with Ms. Roberts as chair, the UNCF labor campaign set a new
record by raising more than $100,000. The previous high for the New York
labor campaign was $70,000.
"Ms. Roberts is a strong labor leader, and she has been our most
productive chair financially to date," said Valerie Cole-Davis, an
Area Development Director for Individuals and Major Gifts at the UNCF
New York Area Office. "She has done a magnificent job on a voluntary
basis, and when you have that level of success it sets a path that has
yet to be equaled."
As part of DC 37's ongoing support effort, the union will also hold UNCF
Extraordinary Black Men Initiative collaborative college fairs and workshops
at the union hall for members, their children and grandchildren. Alumni
from Morehouse, Spellman, Dillard, Tuskegee and other universities will
share information at these events about getting admitted to and funding
their education at historically Black colleges affiliated with UNCF.
Ms. Roberts, as labor chair, will participate in the UNCF televised special
"An Evening of Stars," which airs on Jan. 27, 2007, and pays
tribute to Aretha Franklin.
Contributors to the UNCF New York Labor Campaign should make donation
checks payable to "UNCF" and send them to District Council 37,
Attn: Program Director Frances M. Curtis, 125 Barclay Street, New York,
NY 10007. Contributors of $10,000 or more will be listed in UNCF print
advertisements.
DC 37 is the city's largest public employee union with
121,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
