DC 37, city's largest public employee union, endorses Alan Hevesi for reelection as State Comptroller

Delegates of District Council 37, the city's largest public employees' union with 125,000 members and 50,000 retirees, last night unanimously voted to endorse State Comptroller Alan Hevesi for reelection in the general election in November.

The vote by the DC 37 delegates came on the heels of unanimous recommendations of both the DC 37 Screening committee and the Executive Board. DC 37 previously endorsed Hevesi in his 2002 election for State Comptroller.

"We endorsed State Comptroller Hevesi for another four year term because he has been an effective monitor of the state's fiscal health and an advocate for our issues," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts. "With our endorsement comes a pledge to work diligently on his behalf with our powerful, sophisticated field operations to get out the vote. This union has a proven record of endorsed candidates being elected to public office."
