DC 37, city's largest public employee union, endorses
Attorney General Spitzer for Governor in Democratic primary.

Delegates of District Council 37, the city's largest public employee union with 121,000 members and 50,000 retirees, on May 23 voted unanimously to endorse State Attorney General Elliot Spitzer in the Democratic gubernatorial primary election in September.

The vote by the DC 37 delegates came on the heels of unanimous recommendations of both the DC 37 Screening committee and the Executive Board.

"We endorsed Attorney General Spitzer because he is by far the best candidate. He cares about the issues that are important to this union," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts. "We believe he will best represent the interests of the labor community of our city and our state. With our endorsement comes a pledge to work diligently on his behalf with our powerful, sophisticated field operations to get out the vote. This union has a proven record of successfully supporting our endorsed candidates. We supported Elliot Spitzer when he ran for Attorney General and we are proud to do everything we can to see that he becomes the next Governor of New York State."

In accepting the endorsement, Attorney General Spitzer appeared before the DC 37 delegates and said, "I thank you for the honor of receiving this endorsement. It means a lot to me, to the people of this city and to the people of this state. Together we will turn around the culture of Albany."
