Assembly Speaker Silver endorsed by DC 37

State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver received an enthusiastic and unanimous endorsement for reelection to another two-year term last night from Delegates of District Council 37, the city's largest public employee union with 125,000 members and 50,000 retirees.

"Speaker Silver has always been a strong supporter of our legislative efforts and a friend of DC 37," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts adding, "The most recent example of his support is evidenced by his hard work on the OTB agreement that succeeded in saving the jobs of 1,508 workers, most of whom are members of District Council 37 Local 2021, and the corporation's significant contribution to the state budget."

"This union's endorsement comes with a commitment to work diligently on Speaker Silver's behalf by mobilizing our powerful, sophisticated field operation to get out the vote. This union has a proven record of endorsed candidates being elected to public office," Roberts added.

"Immediately, our activists will begin petitioning followed by leafleting and phone banking to encourage our members to support Speaker Silver. On primary day, he knows that he can count on DC 37 to be out in force getting our members to the polls."

DC 37 is New York City's largest public employee union, representing 125,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
