District
Council 37s Subway Ad Campaign Cut Private Contractors, Not Public
Services! has won a Platinum Award in the MarCom Awards 2009 competition
in the Publicity Campaign category. This is first time that District Council 37
has been a Platinum Winner, the top honor in this international competition.
DC
37 is gratified by this award, which is a tribute to the unions firm commitment
to the power of communications to create and move a powerful message, said
Executive Director Lillian Roberts. We are especially proud because it honors
the members for their willingness to be part of this important publicity campaign
and to go the extra mile to help get the unions message out.
Created
in conjunction with District Council 37s national union AFSCME, the subway
ad campaign was launched in May 2009 to spotlight a "shadow government"
of private contractors and outside consultants funded by $9 billion of New York
citys $60 billion budget. The message illustrated by photos of DC 37 members
on the job: Tell City Hall: Cut Private Contracts, Not Public Services!
