Statement by District Council 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido on Mayor de Blasio’s proposal to fix NYC subways

“New York City’s subway system is in crisis. Mayor de Blasio’s proposal for an income tax on the city’s wealthiest residents provides for long, sustainable funding to fix the subway system. City workers rely on the New York City subway system as their source of transportation to get to and from their jobs. Therefore, we are in full support of the Mayor’s proposal and the legislation introduced by State Senator Gianaris and State Assemblyman O’Donnell and we will work with the coalition to achieve this end.”
