Top lawyer Eddie Demmings retires

After fighting for members’ rights for 27 years, General Counsel Eddie Demmings has retired from District Council 37.

“His contributions to the membership have been very important,” said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts, “and his expertise at training attorneys has helped our Legal Department become one of the best.” Roberts named Demmings general counsel four years ago.

“Protecting members’ jobs is our mission,” said Demmings at his retirement party Oct. 1. Demmings battled to protect members’ rights and benefits in hundreds of cases.

“These cases fight every city attempt to violate the contract,” Demmings said. “Our victories say the union is here for its members and put the city on notice that DC 37 will not look the other way while management violates their rights.”
