At the DC 37 Delegates Council meeting on Jan. 28, nominations will be taken and elections will be held for five vice president positions on the District Council 37 Executive Board.

The spots were created by an amendment to the DC 37 Constitution that expanded the board from 20 to 25 vice presidents.

Executive Director Lillian Roberts, who originally proposed the change, said that enlarging the board would “broaden and strengthen our democracy within District Council 37.”

The Delegates passed the amendment in September, and Gerald W. McEntee, president of DC 37’s national union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, approved it in October. The amendment also added the president of the Retirees Association to the board as a non-voting member.

In the special election Jan. 28, only delegates from local unions whose membership is less than 5 percent of DC 37’s entire membership can nominate and vote on the new vice presidents.
