Telephone scam: Don't be fooled

DC 37 officials have uncovered a scam to defraud union members out of thousands of their hard-earned dollars.

Several DC 37 members have reportedly received phone calls from someone asking that they send $30 to help rebuild the union.

"This is a scheme to separate members from their money," said General Counsel Joel Giller. If you get such a call, do not send any money or reveal your bank account information to the caller.

DC 37 has not authorized any such solicitation of its members nor asked for contributions to rebuild its 125 Barclay St. headquarters.

The union is urging members and locals to contribute to the DC 37 Fallen Heroes Fund.

The building was temporarily damaged in the Sept. 11 World Trade Center collapse, but union locals, staff and benefit programs will be returning to the site throughout February.
