The District Council 37 Black History Committee invites all members and their families to join in celebrating Black History Month in February 2009. This year the Committee examines the theme, “From King to Obama”.

The cultural celebration kicks off Monday Feb. 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Later in the month the BHC will introduce a U.S. postage stamp honoring the Freedom Riders of the civil rights era. The annual DC 37 Family Day, Sat., Feb. 7, focuses on fitness and education with workshops, college prep and more. Registration starts at 9 a.m. During the month union locals will host cultural events featuring live entertainment and guest speakers, so check the calendar below. And Finale Night, Friday, Feb. 27 will celebrate the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama.

For more information, please call your local president, or Committee Co-chairs Debra Pitts at 212-815-1113 or Robert Ajaye at 212-815-1932. All events begin at 6 p.m. unless otherwise listed.
