DC 37's Green Machine turns out for Feb. 12 special elections, where three union-endorsed candidates won landslide victories. DC 37 helped three candidates win by landslides in special elections held Feb. 12 for state Senate and Assembly seats. Liz Krueger, Carl Andrews and Annette Robinson beat their opponents with support from the volunteers of the union's political Green Machine.

Ms. Krueger's 18 percent margin was due in part to the Democratic majority in Manhattan's East Side District 26 and DC 37's active presence.

From 6:00 that frigid morning until the polls closed at 9:00 p.m., union volunteers distributed literature urging voters to choose Krueger. Ms. Krueger replaces Sen. Roy Goodman, who retired. She has worked with several DC 37 locals on health and welfare issues, including SSEU Local 371 and Board of Education Employees Local 372.

In Brooklyn, Carl Andrews swept the senate race in District 20 with 80 percent of the vote. He replaces Marty Markowitz, who is now Borough President.

Annette M. Robinson, a former City Council member, won her race for state Assembly in Brooklyn's 56th District. Again, DC 37 volunteers were out in force as Ms. Robinson gained 86 percent of the vote against three other candidates. She replaces Al Vann, who is now a City Council member.

The newly elected legislators must run again in November when all seats in the state Legislature are up for re-election.
