Professional Engineers take courses at Ed Fund

Professional Engineers who have been licensed and working for the city since Jan. 1st, 2004, are required to take a minimum of 36 professional development hours over a three-year period, 18 of which must be in an interactive setting. Since many members of Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375 fall under this requirement, the local and the DC 37 Education Fund planned a series of courses to help them meet their obligation.

Local 375 member Mohammed Abbas-zadeh, a Civil Engineer 3 with the Dept. of Transportation, wasted no time in registering for the development classes now being offered at DC 37.

“The classes have been very good, especially since I can take them in the evening, so they don’t conflict with work hours,” said Abbaszadeh, who is currently working on a $700 million project in Manhattan. There is no charge for the classes.

The workshops are being offered at DC 37 headquarters every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

From May 7 through June 25 the four courses being offered are Electric Transmission and Distribution Systems (EE 115); Environmental Site Assessment (CE 117); Ground Modification Techniques for Earthworks (CE 116); and Asbestos Investigations as per EPA Protocols (CH 117). All of the workshops are open to professional Engineers, and all are open to professional Architects except EE 115.

Each seminar offers attendees 4.0 professional development hours. Those who complete the courses will receive their certificates from the State Education Dept. of New York.

To register for the classes or to get more information call DC 37 Education Fund Program Coordinator Manuel Gomez Rosa at 212-815-1679 or e-mail him at mgomezrosa @dc37.net.
