The DC 37 Education Fund lets members choose among a myriad of courses offered by the Fund to address their educational, career and personal needs.

The offerings range from high school equivalency, college prep and college credit courses to classes that prepare students for civil service exams and certification tests needed on many jobs as well as introductions to photography, guitar and more classes for personal enjoyment.

If you’re interested in learning something, there’s a good chance that the DC 37 Ed Fund is offering it.

“I take as many classes as I can,” said Mildred Carter, a Senior Police Administrative Aide and active Local 1549 shop steward who works in Rego Park, Queens.

Carter has already taken Spanish and test prep classes, and she recently registered to take an accounting course next September.

Among the accounting courses currently offered are three that provide college credits: Accounting (levels 1 and 2), and Federal Income Tax.

In order to register for the accounting classes, members must have a high school diploma and take a placement test. The free, hour-long test measures reading comprehension.

Monroe College

The three accounting classes are offered at DC 37 headquarters in conjunction with Monroe College. Monroe is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and has campuses in New Rochelle and the Bronx. The college offers associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Applications for all DC 37 Education Fund classes are available on the DC 37 Web site, www.DC37.net.

“It’s important that the members register to guarantee a spot in the class,” said Stephen Johnson, program coordinator at the Education Fund. For any questions regarding the accounting classes contact Johnson at 212-341-4739.
