DC 37 touts Thompson

By DAVID SEIFMAN

August 14 , 2009

District Council 37, the city's largest municipal union, yesterday tossed its support behind Comptroller Bill Thompson for mayor — and one official said he knew what cost Mayor Bloomberg the endorsement.

"He's arrogant, too arrogant," said Robert Ajaye, president of Local 2627, which represents data processors, some of whom are facing possible layoffs.

Bloomberg countered by saying he was unwilling to make "irresponsible promises to win an endorsement."

And his campaign spokesman, Howard Wolfson, called on Thompson to "come clean" and release answers to a DC 37 questionnaire filled out by all the candidates.

Thompson declined.
