The Committee will continue to discuss issues relevant to DC37 members and climate justice:

1) Possible Contract Demands for the up-coming DC37 Citywide Contract Negotiations – Remote Work!, Hazard Pay!, PPE!, Ventilation testing, Anti-privatization, etc. These Draft Contract demands are attached and have been updated as per our last Committee Meeting and written suggestions.

2) The $3-4 Billion NYS Bond Act and the chance to bring funding to NYC public schools for failed roofs, flood proofing, overheated kitchens, etc.

3) This Committee endorsed the Architecture Lobby Report, “A Just Transition for the Building Sector”, but the DC37 Executive Board needed additional information before considering an endorsement.

4) Discussion of Committee priorities for 2022, including educational efforts around the growing climate crisis, and possible group visits to the Bronx Zoo, Botanical Gardens or Park Ranger lead explorations.

5) The creation of good, green DC37 jobs. Good legislation, including Local Law 97 which is already in place, is part of this, but so is Workforce Development and the drawing down of new training funds. In addition to the NYS Bond Act, both the CW4A “Green Healthy Schools” proposal and the Jamaal Bowman “GND for Public Schools” legislation could provide an opportunity to both create new DC37 jobs and better ventilated, more energy efficient public schools. (See item #6)

6) The Green New Deal for Public Schools. This includes both a proposal and petition by the Climate Works for All coalition (please sign here: Green Healthy Schools Petition and the $1.43 Trillion Legislative proposal from local Congressman Jamaal Bowman (Green New Deal for Public Schools Act) which calls for the environmental retro-fitting of all public schools, increases in Title I funding, and reduction of class sizes.

7) Climate Legislative initiatives on the Federal, NYS and NYC levels. These include the Federal THRIVE initiative THRIVE agenda and the Green New Deal. The NYC Equitable Recovery Report, and Green Healthy Schools Report which was just released here. A comprehensive list of NYS Climate Legislation can be found here: New York State Climate Law Tracker.

8) New Climate Technologies which may help in combating the growing climate crisis.

This Committee is scheduled to meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, so please join us.
