Members demand climate awareness

Gathering under sweltering heat, and before a sudden thunderstorm, DC 37 members and activists joined more than 3,000 who rallied at Battery Park, to march through lower Manhattan to demand action from New York’s elected officials to address climate change at an upcoming Global Action Summit conference in San Francisco.

DC 37 joined other unions, including New York State Nurses Association, the Professional Staff Congress, IBEW and other unions at the Sept. 6 event.

The “New York Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice” march was one of many organized throughout the country to press for action on the climate crisis when the conference began on Sept. 12.

“There’s an urgency to this issue,” said Jon Forster, of the DC 37 Climate Justice Committee. “This is not a crisis that is about to happen. This is a crisis that we are already in.”
