Chilcare subsidies programs expand to help more families

By DIANE S. WILLIAMS

The income thresholds for Child Care Facilitated Enrollment have increased to 300% of Federal Poverty Levels (FPL) and now have much lower co-pays. The increase means more DC 37 members may be eligible for subsidized day care programs for working families in New York City and Long Island.

In a post-budget fix, Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation that raised the eligibility levels.

“This is an improvement that DC 37 fought hard for on behalf of our members,” said DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido.

The increased FPL for the Child Care Facilitated Enrollment Project is retroactive to April. On June 1, the cap on parental co-pays was lowered to 1% from 10% of a family’s income over the FPL.

More information and an updated fact sheet with the new income thresholds for the Child Care Facilitated Enrollment Project based in New York City can be found at dc37.net/about/services/childcare_subsidies.

New York City residents can apply at cwenet.net/nysfe-1.

Program details and a website for Long Island residents are forthcoming.
