DC 37 statement on DOE Early Childhood Education funding announcement

NEW YORK— The following is a statement from District Council 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido regarding the Department of Education’s announcement this morning that all community-based Early Childhood Education programs would be paid least 75% of the value of their FY22 contracts with New York City Public Schools:

“This is a step in the right direction. The City of New York owes a debt to every child care provider and day care worker who showed up for our youngest New Yorkers without the promise of a paycheck. We thank the members of Local 205, Council Member Rita Joseph and the dozens of child care advocacy organizations for sounding the alarm on this issue and fighting alongside us to make it right for our workers.”
