“Green Machine” Stands Against Project 2025

DC 37 Political Action & Legislation Department

There’s a lot at stake for DC 37 members and their families in the upcoming general election. This November, we are called upon to elect leaders at the local, state and federal levels who will shape the future of our wallets, our homes, our workplaces, and our country.

Dangers of ‘Project 2025’

Project 2025 is Donald Trump’s plan if he wins a second term. This 900-page radical agenda, written by multiple members of Trump’s prior administration, aims to transform the federal government and take away power from working people, giving the president unprecedented levels of control over our lives.

Project 2025 will affect all Americans, but especially employees in public service by canceling our collective bargaining contracts, banning our unions, and cutting billions of dollars in funding for essential programs that working families need and that our jobs depend on.

Here are just a few ways Project 2025 and a second Trump term would impact your bottom line:

  • The right to unite with your coworkers to negotiate your pay, benefits, retirement, and working conditions will disappear. Project 2025 aims to ban public sector unions and make it easier for private companies to fire employees for unionizing.
  • Overtime pay would be gutted, as Project 2025 would diminish overtime rules that stop employers from forcing us to work long hours without fair pay. This rule change will cost workers thousands of dollars per year.
  • The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, which has relieved many AFSCME members of an overwhelming student debt burden, will be eliminated.
  • The Affordable Care Act that covers millions of people is at risk of being rolled back, weakening Medicare and Medicaid and the ability to negotiate lower prescription drug costs.

Fighting Back

DC 37 proudly endorses Vice President Kamala Harris for U.S. President. She has proven herself to be a tireless advocate for working families and the labor movement, and will continue to protect and expand our rights as working people, as union members, and as Americans.

Belonging to a union and participating in the political process is how we prevent extremist politicians from cutting our benefits and chipping away at our freedoms. However, freedom is about more than just “getting by.” It’s about the freedom to own a home, take a loved one to the doctor, or retire with dignity. Let’s protect these rights by exercising our freedom to vote this November.
