DC 37 Launches New, Accessible Website & Member Portal

By Mike Lee

“We are always listening and responding to our members’ needs,” said Henry Garrido, DC 37 Executive Director. “The new website and member portal are examples of using the latest technology to effectively communicate up-to-date information and make it available at our members’ fingertips.”

The goal of the website redesign was to create a mobile-friendly site that displays the most frequently requested information on benefits and services. DC 37’s Communications Department partnered with the worker-owned agency CoLab Cooperative, which specializes in creating websites for socially responsible organizations that meet and exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards for digital content. The development process incorporated input from members, retirees, and staff on which information is most sought after. The union and CoLab conducted several facilitated focus groups to guide the website design and user experience.

“We’re excited to bring a fresh website to our members as a tool for communicating the benefits and services available to them,” said Thea Setterbo, DC 37 Communications Director. “The new site brings DC 37’s web presence into this century and allows us the flexibility to adapt the content to what is timely and most relevant to our members.”

Through the website, users can easily access their account or register for the new member portal, which was launched in phases over the last several months for every DC 37 local.

The portal system was developed by the DC 37 Information Technologies Department to provide secure access to benefits and local-specific information, including general membership meetings, virtual meetings, and unit contracts.
