Statement by District Council 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido on Gov. Cuomo’s signing of legislation that protects the rights of New York’s workers

“They say that you know who your true friends are in tough times. And today is a difficult time for our working brothers and sisters. Under Trump, the federal government is trying to take away our rights, lower our wages, and leave us powerless.

“But here in New York, Governor Cuomo and the state legislature have boldly pushed back against public employee union-busting. By signing this important legislation, the Governor has once again made it clear that he is a friend of working families.”

District Council 37 is New York City’s largest public employee union, with 125,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
