Children’s folkloric group starts the celebration at DC 37 on Sept. 29.

Hispanic Heritage Month

SSEU Local 371 celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month at union headquarters with an evening of folkloric music provided by the children’s group Nukanchik Llakta Wawakuna and the salsa sounds of singer Cita Rodriguez and her orchestra.

The Sept. 29 celebration also featured a keynote address by New York State Assembly member Marcos Crespo, who traveled to Puerto Rico with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to help victims of Hurricane Maria. “What I saw in Puerto Rico broke my heart,” said Crespo, who represents the 85th District in the Bronx.

SSEU Local 371 President Anthony Wells also expressed support for the victims of the hurricane in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. “It is time for us to come together to help our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean,” Wells said.
