Ronaldo Barber, was elected as a first-time Vice President of DC 37 executive board in January 2019. He served as president of Brooklyn Library Guild Local 1482 from 2018-2024. As president of the Brooklyn Library Guild, he represented various titles such as Librarian, Custodian, Clerical, Special Officers and well as many others. In 1993, he began his career at the Brooklyn Public Library as a mail room clerk. Several years later, he was promoted to Office Associate and later moved into the library’s IT department to become a Service Technician. While at the library, Barber became active in the union. He fought for fair salaries and protecting titles in his department, and was instrumental in obtaining workplace wins for his co-workers. In 2008, he was elected to the local’s executive board and became a DC 37 delegate. Since 2008, he has been the chair of the Annual Picnic committee. Barber currently serves as an Elder in his local church and is state certified as a chaplain. He also is on the union’s Labor Faith Community Outreach committee. His main focus is to strengthen and empower the members of Local 1482, fighting for their rights and ensure that they are treated with dignity and respect.
