District Council 37 issues endorsements for U.S. House and State Senate Primaries
NEW YORK— District Council 37, New York City’s largest public sector union representing 150,000 workers and 89,000 retirees, announces its endorsements for the U.S. Congressional and State Senate races in the Democratic primary election.
“This is a critical time for the labor movement, and these candidates have demonstrated their dedication to our members and our values,” said Henry Garrido, Executive Director of District Council 37. “As the costs of healthcare and other basic needs continue to rise, and our fundamental rights are picked apart by the Supreme Court, we need legislators at the state and federal levels who will find and fight for realistic solutions for working class families.”
The union conducts a comprehensive screening process prior to every endorsement it issues. Candidates are vetted and recommended based on their pro-labor agenda, including support for collective bargaining, reproductive rights, gun control, climate justice and other issues impacting workers’ health, safety and quality of life.
“We’re committed to mobilizing our membership for these candidates through this primary into the general election,” Garrido said.
