Ed Fund welcomes members

The Murphy Institute, Queens College and Borough of Manhattan Community College were some of the institutions that took part in an open-house event sponsored by the union’s Education Fund. Members had the opportunity to sit down with representatives of these institutions to ask about the courses offered, make an appointment for a career counseling session and ask questions about tuition reimbursement.

Diallo Shabazz, administrator of the Education Fund, welcomed union members and DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido, to the open-house session on Sept. 19 at union headquarters. Garrido pointed out that as many as 125,000 city workers will be retiring soon. “We have to be prepared to educate the city’s workforce as these employees retire,” said Garrido at the session.

The Ed Fund is also offering members a resume writing workshop on Oct. 17 and 24 and several workshops in October and November to help members with test taking skills. To register for the workshops members need to call 212-815-1700 or go to www.dc37.net/benefits/education/edfund to get an application.
