Local 372 retiree killed by stray bullet

David Dottin was 49 years old when he was fatally shot.
Sr. School Lunch Helper David Dottin was tragically gunned down as he tried to enjoy the carnival weekend in Brooklyn with his two sons.

Dottin, a member of Local 372 who had worked at PS 163 and retired only a couple of months ago, was talking to his friends and two sons in front of his home near Herkimer Place and Nostrand Avenue when he was killed by a stray bullet.

Dottin was fatally wounded by the shot above the right eye around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3, when someone fired into the crowd in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Dottin was rushed to Kings County Hospital but was soon pronounced dead. He was 49 years old and had immigrated to the United States in 1988 from Barbados.

His aunt Laurel Dottin told the Daily News her nephew was an easygoing man who doted on his kids and just wanted to be around to see them grow up.

“On behalf of all of our Local 372 members, we send our condolences to the family of David Dottin,” said Local 372 President Shaun D. Francois I.
