September 11 heroes remembered

The memory of four DC 37 members who were killed during the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center were honored during the annual Sept. 11 memorial service at DC 37.

“We stand here today to remind everyone that we will never forget,” said DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido.
The four members who died on the day of the attack are:

  • Fire Dept. Chaplain, Father Mychal F. Judge, who rushed to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 to assist first responders and give Last Rites to the victims when he was killed by falling debris from the north tower. He was a member of Local 299.
  • Paramedic Carlos Lillo worked for Battalion 49 in Astoria and went to One World Trade Center to rescue people. Lillo was a member of Local 2507.
  • Lt. Ricardo Quinn, a member of Local 3621, was off-duty on Sept. 11. He rushed to the World Trade Center to rescue people when the tower collapsed.
  • Chet Louie worked as a Betting Clerk at an Off-Track Betting parlor and was a member of Local 2021. He also worked at Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor at One World Trade Center.

Several members who worked on the cleanup have died, and others have serious illnesses.
