Puleo honored for saving jobs

Local 983 President Joe Puleo was one of five New York City labor leaders recognized at this year’s Labor Press luncheon that honored those who have made significant contributions to supporting the rights of workers. Puleo was chosen for Local 983’s leadership in saving 200 NYC Parks Department jobs that were on the chopping block. They had originally been hired as part of former-Mayor Bill De Blasio’s New Deal-inspired City Cleanup Corp that was funded with American Rescue Plan funds from Washington, D.C. “These are people who really needed a job. They are often single parents struggling to make ends meet. Losing these jobs was not an option,” Puleo said.
